How to add the tawk.to widget to the Plesk Panel

The instructions below are for desktops and laptops only.

You can add the tawk.to live chat widget to your Plesk-hosted website using one of two methods:

  1. Install the tawk.to Plesk extension (if available).

  2. Manually add the widget code to your site’s HTML files.

This guide walks you through how to get your widget code and both installation methods for Plesk.

First, get your Widget Code

1. Log in to your tawk.to account.

2. Select the correct property.

3. Click Administration in the top menu.

4. Click Chat Widget under Channels in the left menu.

5. Copy the Widget Code.

You’ll need this code for both of the following methods.

Method 1: Use the tawk.to extension from the Plesk catalog

Use this method if your Plesk installation includes the tawk.to extension. It provides a user-friendly interface for adding your widget code without editing HTML files.

Step 1: Search and install the extension

  1. Log in to your Plesk Panel.

  2. In the left sidebar, click Extensions.

  3. Use the search bar to find “tawk.to”.

  4. Click Install once the extension appears.

Step 2: Add your Direct Chat Link

  1. After installation, go to Extensions > My Extensions and select tawk.to.

  2. Open the extension settings.

  3. Paste your Direct Chat Link into the field provided and click OK.

Once saved, the widget will be activated and visible on your website.

Method 2: Add the Widget Code manually

If the extension is not available or you prefer manual control, insert the widget code directly into your website’s files via the File Manager.

Step 1: Open your site in Plesk

  1. In Plesk, click Websites & Domains.

  2. Choose the domain where you want to add the widget.

  3. Click File Manager.

  4. Open the root folder (usually httpdocs).

Step 2: Insert the Widget Code

  1. Open your homepage file (index.html, index.php, or the main layout template).

  2. Paste the tawk.to widget script just before the closing </body> tag.

  3. Save the file.

Confirm installation

After using either method:

  1. Visit your website in a browser.

  2. Refresh the page.

  3. You should see the tawk.to chat widget in the lower-right corner.

If it doesn’t appear:

  • Clear your browser cache and reload the site.

  • Double-check that the widget code is installed correctly.

Important considerations

  • The tawk.to extension is not available in all Plesk environments, especially on managed or shared hosting.

  • The manual method offers more control and is compatible with any file-based or CMS-based website.

  • Always back up your website files before making code changes.

  • For CMS platforms like WordPress running on Plesk, consider using platform-specific methods or plugins for easier integration.
