Enabling desktop notifications

The instructions below are for desktops and laptops only.

Desktop notifications let you receive tawk.to alerts through your web browser even when the browser is minimized. You can easily enable and customize them from your tawk.to dashboard.

Enabling and customizing notifications

1. Log in to your tawk.to account.

2. Select the correct property.

3. Click your profile image in the lower-left corner of the dashboard.

4. Switch Desktop notifications on. This enables notifications for new chats, messages, and agent messages by default.

5. You can also click Manage Sounds & Notifications to customize your notification settings further.

In the Manage Sounds & Notifications page, you can enable/disable specific notifications and change the sounds and volume levels of your notifications. Click Save when you’re done.

Additional considerations

  • Browser permissions
Desktop notifications require permission from your browser. If you don’t see alerts, check your browser’s notification settings to ensure tawk.to notifications are allowed. For troubleshooting, see Why am I not getting notifications?.

  • Active browser or app
Notifications appear while your browser is open — even when minimized. They won’t appear if the browser is fully closed or you’re logged out.

  • System settings
Ensure that your computer’s Do Not Disturb (macOS) or Focus Assist (Windows) mode is turned off, as these can silence notifications.
