How does tawk.to determine my visitor’s location?

Your visitor’s location is based on the public Internet Protocol (IP) address detected by the tawk.to server.

You can find the IP address in the Details tab to the right of a live chat or message panel.

In the Details tab, scroll down until you see the section for Device. Under Device is the IP address information.

IP addresses are 32 or 128-bit numbers assigned to devices connected to the internet. The Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) is responsible for coordinating the IP address systems and maintains a list of numbers and the locations with which they are associated.

The IP address can be used to estimate each visitor’s location. Accuracy will vary based on the geographical location and internet service provider of the visitor.

If your visitor is using a Virtual Private Network, their location will not be able to be identified by IP address.
