How to test push notifications on mobile
This guide shows how to run the built-in push-notification tests in the tawk.to Android and iOS apps, and what to try if a test fails. Follow the short steps below, then use the troubleshooting tips to fix common issues.
For Android
The tawk.to mobile app has a built-in feature for you to easily check if push notifications are working properly.

4. Scroll down to Settings and select App Settings.

5. Tap Test notifications under Alerts.

6. Tap Send a Test Push Notification. To test a specific property, choose Pick a property first.

7. You should receive the test push within ~30 seconds.

8. If successful, the app shows a confirmation message.

Quick live test
Open your website on a different device or browser, send a message through the chat widget, and confirm the push arrives on your phone. Tapping the notification should open the chat in the app.
If you don’t receive the test, double-check Android notification settings, battery optimization, and app cache. Clearing the app cache and restarting the device often helps.
For iOS

3. Tap App Settings under Settings.

4. Tap Notifications & sounds.

5. Ensure your notification and sound settings are enabled. Under Push Notification Troubleshooting, tap Test Notifications.

6. Tap Start Push Notification Test.

7. If Do Not Disturb (Focus) is on, iOS will prompt you to disable it — you can re-enable it afterwards.

8. You should receive the test notification shortly and see a confirmation inside the app when it succeeds.

Quick live test
Open your website on another browser/device, send a chat from the widget, and confirm the push arrives and opens the chat when tapped.
If you don’t receive the test, check your iOS Notification settings, Focus/Do Not Disturb rules, and Background App Refresh for tawk.to. See the iOS troubleshooting guide for more details.
Important considerations
Notification delay
Network or device performance can add a few seconds of delay. Background permissions
iOS needs Background App Refresh; Android needs the app allowed to run in the background (battery optimization/auto-start settings).Battery optimization (Android)
Some manufacturers aggressively limit background apps (Huawei, Xiaomi, OnePlus, etc.). If your device kills background processes, allow tawk.to in Battery Optimization/Protected apps.Multiple devices
If you’re signed in on several devices, notifications may arrive on all of them. Use the app’s online/offline controls to limit where you receive alerts.Cache and reinstall
Clearing the app cache or reinstalling the app can resolve lingering issues. For Android: Settings → Apps → tawk.to → Storage → Clear Cache, then restart your device.OS differences
Exact menu names and locations vary by OS version and device manufacturer — check the device-specific troubleshooting articles linked below for model-specific steps.
