Changing your widget language

The instructions below are for desktops and laptops only.

Using the widget language settings on your tawk.to dashboard, you easily can customize the language visitors will see on your chat widget.


You can also customize the widget language for each property if you have multiple properties.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to change the language for the menu items, heading, body text, and other areas of your chat widget.

Note: This only affects the text shown on your chat widget, and doesn’t affect your Chat and Profile Pages or your Knowledge Base.


Follow these steps to change your widget’s language settings:

1. Log in to your tawk.to account.


2. On your dashboard, select the property for which you want the widget settings. Hover over the property name to ensure you’ve selected the correct one.

3. Click the gear icon on the top menu to go to the Administration panel.

4. On the Administration menu, select Chat Widget under Channels.

5. Scroll down to Widget Content and select a language from the dropdown menu. Your changes are effective immediately.
This changes the language of your widget’s menu, action buttons, forms, and labels.

For example:

If you change the widget language from the default English to Spanish, your widget’s menu items will appear like this:

Your widget’s forms, for example, the Change name and Email transcript forms, will appear like this:

6. To customize the header, body, and other widget content, click Edit Content.

Under Widget State, you can customize the Header and Body Cards for the Online, Away, and Offline states, and Pre-Chat form.
For example, you can edit the Heading, and preview the widget on the right, like this:

Click Update to save your changes. Your chat widget updates automatically after saving. No need to update the widget code in your page’s HTML.

7. Once you’ve made all your changes, click x esc to close the Widget Content page.

Your changes are effective immediately, and you can change these settings anytime.
