How to disconnect your WhatsApp Business account from tawk.to

This guide explains how to properly disconnect your WhatsApp Business account API from tawk.to to stop messages from being routed to your tawk.to dashboard.

To disconnect your WhatsApp inbox, you’ll need to
  • Remove the connection from your mobile device first, and
  • Disconnect your WhatsApp inbox from the tawk.to dashboard

Steps to disconnect your WhatsApp inbox

Remove the connection from your mobile device

Follow these steps on the mobile device linked to your WhatsApp Business App:

Open the WhatsApp Business App and go to Settings (bottom right on iOS; three dots on Android).

Tap Account.
Select Business Platform.
If this option isn’t available for you, contact us with your Property ID and WhatsApp Business Phone Number, and we’ll help you further.
Tap Disconnect account.

Once you confirm, WhatsApp will automatically stop sending messages to tawk.to.

After removing the connection on your mobile device, follow these steps on your desktop or laptop:

Log in to tawk.to and select the correct property.

Click Administration in the left navigation bar.

Click Integrations in the left submenu.

On the Integrations page, select the Messaging tab. Then, click WhatsApp.

Click Settings.

Click the 3 dots for the WhatsApp number you want to disconnect, and click Disconnect.

Your WhatsApp inbox will be disconnected, and messages from this number won’t be routed to your tawk.to dashboard anymore.

Important considerations

  • To disconnect a WhatsApp Business App integration, you must revoke the connection directly from your mobile device. Removing the integration from the tawk.to dashboard alone will not stop the API connection.

  • Ensure you disconnect from the correct mobile device that’s linked to your WhatsApp Business App.

  • After disconnection, you can reconnect the same number or connect a different WhatsApp account if needed.
