Disconnecting your Telegram bot from tawk.to

The instructions below are for desktops and laptops only.

This guide explains how to disconnect your Telegram bot from your tawk.to property so new Telegram messages no longer appear in your Inbox.

Unlike some other channels, you disconnect a Telegram bot entirely from the tawk.to Dashboard. You do not need to change any settings in Telegram to stop messages from syncing.

Steps to disconnect your Telegram bot

1. Log in to your tawk.to account.

2. Select the correct property.

3. Click Administration on the left navigation bar.

4. Click Integrations in the left submenu.

5. On the Integrations page, click the Messaging tab, and then select Telegram.

6. Click the Settings tab. Locate the bot you want to disconnect in the connections list. Use the search bar to find it by Inbox Name or Bot Username (for example, @acme_support_bot).

Then, click the three-dot menu (⋮) on the right side of the bot, and select Disconnect.

After you disconnect the bot:

The bot stops forwarding new messages to tawk.to.
Its status changes to Disconnected in the connections list.
Existing conversations will remain in the Inbox but become read-only. The message composer is disabled, so agents cannot send new messages until the bot is reconnected.

Reconnecting your bot

To reconnect your bot:

Click the three-dot menu next to the disconnected bot, and select Reconnect.
If the token was revoked in @BotFather, tawk.to may open a Reconnect Telegram Bot window where you can paste the new token.

You cannot update the token in the Edit screen — all token changes must be done following the steps above.

Important considerations

Disconnecting a Telegram bot is done fully within the tawk.to Dashboard.

No action is required on the Telegram side to stop message syncing.

To permanently remove the bot from Telegram, send the /deletebot command to @BotFather. This is separate from disconnecting your bot from tawk.to.

Once a bot is disconnected, new customer messages will not arrive in tawk.to until the bot is successfully reconnected.
